Friday 5Day: The Hunchback of Norte Dame Musical

Hey there! How’s it going? Now open at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (THND)  musical is getting closer and closer to Broadway. After my lovely chat with the Disney Hipsters, who saw the show last night, I thought I’d share 5 things I’m looking froward to about the musical. Without further ado here we go:

1. The Music

I’m a HUGE fan of this score. The music from the movie is some of my favorite Disney music of all time, and to be able to hear the music played by a live orchestra… would be amazing

2. The Costumes

To me, one of the aspect that made THD stand out was the costumes. Even animated all the attention to detail to show the personality of each character I found incredible, Looking at promo pictures for the show, I can see Alejo Vietti was able to do the same.

3. The Sets

I’m interested to see how set designer Alexander Dodge translated the gothic feel of medieval Paris onto the stage, but judging by the promo pictures he’s done a fantastic job.

4. Ciara Renee

I’m a huge fan of Ciara Renee who plays Esmeralda, and I can’t wait to see her interpretation of one of my favorite Disney characters.

5. “Someday”

I know I’ve covered music, but this is my favorite song from THND. When I heard that they put the song into the musical I got really excited.

Are you excited for The Hunchback of Notre Dame musical? What are you most looking forward to? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you real soon! 🙂

  1. It is no doubt that Hunchback features one of the best scores of Alan Menken. It is second in my favorite scores list, after Aladdin (also by Menken). Of course the lyrics by Stephen Schwartz here are beautiful as well. It deserves a Broadway treatment for sure, and as it seems, this production is going to move to Broadway probably after Frozen enters the picture. Disney already has two shows running on Broadway now, and neither of them seems to be closing. The Lion King and Aladdin are both expected to have very long runs on Broadway.

    1. Hunchback and Aladdin are two of my favorite Alan Menken scores ever! And Stephen Schwartz can do no wrong, he has such a way of telling a story… He’s great. I hope the show goes to Broadway, I would like it to get there before Frozen, but you’re right. Disney has two very successful shows that show no sign of slowing down any time soon.

      1. I am not fond of Frozen, but they have already announced plans of it entering in 2017. Menken/Schwartz announced previously that they temporarily have no plans to move this production to Broadway, though it seems otherwise now.

      2. Oh… So it is coming soon… I hope try do bring it to Broadway, it would be nice to have Schwartz back in Broadway 🙂

      3. Well, he has Wicked still running strong. Come see my blog if you love musicals as well! I am writing about Beauty and the Beast this whole week because I am seeing the show this Sunday!

      4. True! I will! Oh how fun! I’ve never seen that show, but I hear it’s fantastic!! 🙂
